26 seasons strong

The top-ranked Knights took home their 26th straight IIAC championship with a win over No. 5 Loras on Friday.

Wartburg has improved it’s IIAC dual streak to 205 and its home winning streak to 30, which dates back to Battle of the Burgs in 2010.

At 125 pounds, Brennen Doebel started off the night with a pin at 6:06 over Matt Randone. This marks Doebel’s tenth fall of the season.

Third-ranked Brock Rathbun followed up in the 133 pound match with a 15-2 major decision over Michael Triplett, extending his winning streak to seven.

In the 141 pound match, Brenden Baker lost a 8-5 decision to Kevin Kelly, allowing the DuHawk’s their only points of the night.

Top-ranked Cross Cannone came out on top against fifth-ranked DuHawk Jimmy Davis, winning the 149 pound match by a 8-2 decision.

Second-ranked Logan Thomsen bounced back from his first loss of the season against Augsburg, winning by a 19-2 technical fall over Merrick Purcell in the 157 pound match.

This marks Thomsen’s seventh technical fall and 25th win of the season.

Top-ranked Mike Ross remained undefeated, claiming the 165 pound match with a 5-3 decision over Eddie Smith.

In the 174 pound match, top-ranked Eric DeVos won by a 21-7 technical fall over Sam Schuler, extending his winning streak to 28.

Second-ranked Tyler Lutes followed up with a 12-5 decision over Awais Arain to garner yet another Knight victory.

In a rematch of last year’s 197 pound match, second-ranked Kyle Fank edged out third-ranked Guy Patron Jr. with an 8-5 decision to claim victory again.

Rounding out the night, Bowen Wileman upset the DuHawk’s fifth-ranked Quin Gilliam with an 11-8 decision in the 285 pound match.

This marks the 26th consecutive conference championship for the Knights and the 36th in program history.
