The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) announced its National Athlete of the Week Award recipient earlier today, and, this week, it belongs to Wartburg’s own Ashlyn Bagge.
This past weekend, Bagge and the Knights competed in the Les Duke Invitational in Grinnell. Bagge dominated the 6K race, finishing with a time of 21:28.2; a whopping 54 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. This is her second victory in as many meets, as she also won the Crown College Invitational two weekends ago.
Bagge started the season coming off a top-8 finish in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past spring, and is showing no signs of slowing down. The Knights have only competed in two meets this year, and she won both of them. The next meet for the Knights will be the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational on Friday, Sept. 22 in Rock Island, Ill. before coming home for the annual Dan Huston Invite the following Saturday.
