IIAC Roundup: Week 11

Hard to believe it, but the 2014 Iowa Conference football season is over.

Wartburg ran away with the title, but the rest of the league was very competitive and that showed in the final standings.

Looking back on it, the opening week of conference play turned out to feature the de facto championship game, when the Knights handled Central, 35-14.

PELLA, Iowa — Central racked up 406 yards on the ground, an average of 6.4 yards per attempt. Josh Osborn led the way with 264 yards and three touchdowns on 45 carries. Brendon Boerm added 108 yards and a score on 10 rushes. Central bolted to a 24-0 first-half lead as Dubuque QB Zach Fry threw two interceptions.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Bobby Brown’s stellar career ended with a thud as he completed 19-of-35 passes for 204 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Meanwhile, Coe QB Josh Rekers shined with 382 yards passing on 24-of-31 completions and three touchdowns. Brandon Abbas kicked four field goals. Coe scored 33 unanswered points after Brown’s five-yard run put the Beavers up 6-0 early in the first quarter. The Beavers lost three straight games after beginning the IIAC campaign 4-0.

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Luther scored 21 straight points in the final 8:30 to overcome a 35-21 deficit and send Simpson to its seventh straight loss. JJ Sirios’ one-yard run tied the score with 4:46 to go. The Storm fumbled on the next possession and Luther took the lead on Christian Moore’s three-yard run with 21 seconds left. The Norse jumped out to a 21-7 lead thanks to three Josh Vos touchdown runs, but two fumbles returned for touchdowns helped Simpson take a 14-point lead early in the fourth quarter. The teams threw just 13 total times in snowy conditions.
