If you didn’t think Wartburg was the clear Iowa Conference favorite before Week 6, Saturday’s results probably persuaded you.

The Knights put an emphatic end to a three-game losing skid in the Coe series, while the IIAC’s other remaining unbeaten went down in convincing fashion.

Let the battle for second place begin, or so it seems.

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Bobby Brown threw for a school-record 432 yards and Buena Vista won its third straight game after an 0-2 start. Brown completed 30-of-47 passes with five touchdowns and one interception. Three of those scoring strikes went to Gunner Gilland, who caught 10 balls for 152 yards. Brown had three TD tosses in the first quarter alone, as BV took a 21-6 lead. The Beavers are averaging 47 points over the last three weeks after totaling just 12 in the opening two games. Loras produced 374 yards of offense, but couldn’t keep up with BV and its 633 yards. The Duhawks scored two touchdowns on fumble recoveries.

DECORAH, Iowa — The Norse fumbled the ball away four times and Central held the triple-option attack to 217 yards, 202 shy of its average to bounce back from a Homecoming loss by spoiling Luther’s Homecoming. Luther fumbled on its first two possessions of the game, the first of which the Dutch turned into points. Third quarter scoring drives of 65 and 37 yards commenced with Norse fumbles. The Dutch led 21-7 at halftime and quickly put the game away with three third-quarter touchdowns. Central racked up 226 yards on the ground, led by Josh Osborn’s 115 and three touchdowns.

DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Spartans returned home with a point to prove after losing at Luther in the conference opener, thrashing Simpson, which fell to 0-2 in conference play after beginning the season with an impressive 3-0 non-conference mark. Zach Fry threw two first-quarter touchdown passes and finished the day with 278 yards and four scores. Simpson got back within 14-7, but UD seized momentum with a six-play, 61-yard scoring drive, then returning a fumble 70 yards for a touchdown on the Storm’s next possession. Dubuque held Simpson to 287 total yards after allowing over 400 on the ground against the Norse last week.
