Knights down Duhawks for first time in six years

Wartburg’s women’s soccer team beat traditional IIAC power Loras Saturday for the first time since 2008.

The 3-0 win coupled with Luther’s loss to Central moves the Knights (8-5-4, 3-2-1) into fourth place in the Iowa Conference, a spot that would give them a home match in the first round of the conference tournament.

Ashley Kerns got Wartburg on the board in the 15th minute off an assist from Brinkly Werkman.

Brittany Frush doubled the lead in the 62nd minute when she scored directly off a corner kick for her 10th goal of the season.

Alyssa Hewitt added the final tally in the 82nd minute.

Wartburg out-shot Loras (10-7-0, 4-2-0), 17-11. Fourteen of those shots were on goal. Beth Crow made seven saves for the Knights, who host Buena Vista Tuesday for Senior Night.
