Men’s soccer ends season with conference tournament loss

The No. 4 seeded Wartburg men’s soccer team fell to No. 5 Simpson 1-0 at home Saturday to end their season with a record of 7-10-2.

Marcus Varnum scored the lone goal of the match off an assist from Mark Lahart in the 69th minute.

The Knights outshot Simpson 20-13 including a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Simpson held an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks.

The Storm advance to the semifinals of the Iowa Conference tournament where they will meet regular season champion Loras.

Leading Wartburg in goals this season was freshman Zubeen Azari with eight. Senior Brandon Cook led the team in assists with seven and Azari led the team in points with 19.

Dan Nadeau led the team with 50 shots and 30 shots on goal.
