Austin Walther’s first goal of the season in the 34th minute proved to be the game winner as Luther defeated Wartburg 1-0 in both team’s regular season finale.
The Norse outshot the Knights 19-13 including an 11-5 advantage in the first half. Luther also had 11 corner kicks to Wartburg’s two.
The loss dropped the Knights from the No. 3 seed in the IIAC Tournament to the No. 4 seed, meaning they will still get to to host a first round game.
Wartburg tied with Simpson in the final IIAC standings at 3-3-1. The first tiebreaker for tournament seeding is head-to-head matchup and the teams tied at two.
The next tiebreaker was then put in play which is goal differential in conference games. Wartburg’s final IIAC goal differential is “+8” while Simpson’s is “-2,” giving the Knights home field advantage in the first round.
