Sieck sisters to lead 2012 volleyball team

After a 24-11 regular season and a second-place finish in the Iowa Conference, the Wartburg volleyball team returns all but two players from their 2011 roster for the 2012 season.

Three-time first-team all-conference outside hitter Britlyn Sieck returns to lead the Knights for her senior season. Sieck led the team with 423 kills last season and reached the 1,000 kill milestone for her career.

Sieck’s sister, Ramey, was named first-team all-conference setter in 2011 and will be back on the court this season for her junior year. She led the Knights last season with 1,078 assists and 36 serve aces.

Other returning all-conference players returning are junior middle-hitter Kelly Niemann (second-team) and sophomore middle-hitter Bailey Wilson (third-team).

The Knights return three other key contributors including senior Monique Davisson, juniors Marissa Shinstine and Maddie Forsyth.

Nicole Beer and Kamille Van Natta are the only two Knights from the 2011 squad not returning this season after graduating.

The rest of the conference will also be very experienced as six of eight first-teamers return.

2011 IIAC champion Coe also loses just two players to graduation and returns first-team all-confernce setter Emily Ryan as well as second-team all-conference outside-hitter Rachel Schaefer.

Cornell represented the IIAC in the 2011 NCAA Tournament but the Rams are now competing in the Midwest Conference, leaving the Knights and Kohawks as favorites to win the Iowa Conference this season.
