Since February of 2014, an exhibit centered around recycling and exercise has been going on at the Phelps Youth Pavilion in Waterloo.
This exhibit is called The Great Bicycle Recycle.
Used bicycles have been donated to the Waterloo Center for the Arts for this exhibit. The exhibit is all a part of the Blue Zone initiative in Iowa encouraging sustainability in everyone’s lives.
Manager Angie Hickok says the exhibit hopes to encourage youth to be active and to recycle throughout their entire lives.
The exhibit also serves to show off artwork created entirely from recycled materials. The exhibit provides children with the opportunity to learn about sustainability in a truly hands-on environment.
The exhibit, formed in conjunction with the Cedar Valley Bicycle Collective, Black Hawk County Solid Waste management Commission and the City of Waterloo Waste management, will remain open until February of 2015 at the Phelps Youth Pavilion in Waterloo.
