The Wartburg Track and Field teams were both crowned conference champions on Saturday at the Iowa Conference Championships held at Buena Vista University.
The women’s team won their 18th straight outdoor championship with an overall team score of 212.5, Loras finished in second with 174.5 points.
The women’s team also posted several top individual scores during the meet as well.
Courtney Sowle ran the 100 meter hurdles in 14.51 seconds, the 11th best time in the entire country. Teylor Jones posted a top 10 time in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.53 seconds.
Elizabeth Duehr defended her title in the 800 meter while the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Becca Cherry, Jones, Tessa Helmle and Dailen Folkedahl posted a time of 47.04 seconds, good for 6th best in all of DIII.
On the men’s side of things, Wartburg won their 9th outdoor championship and first since 2014.
The Knights posted a score of 160 while Central placed second with 129.5 team points.
Eli Kaczinski was the top individual performer for Wartburg. Kaczinski won the 5,000 meter run on Saturday and the 10,000 meter run on Friday. He is the first men’s competitor to win the 5,000 meter since 2009.
The Wartburg Track and Field coaching staff was named the top Iowa Conference coaching staff on both the men’s and women’s sides.
