Volleyball splits first day at Oshkosh

Wis.-River Falls rallied from a 25-15 loss to upset Wartburg 3-1 before the Knights capped the first day at the Wis.-Oshkosh tournament with a sweep of NAIA opponent Clarke.

Wartburg hit a consistent .224 for the match against Wis.-River Falls, never hitting under .208 or above .242 for a set in the 15-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-16 loss.

Kalyn Ertz and Kaity Brouwer led Wartburg, which used 15 players in the match, with six kills apiece while Claire Willenbring and Bailey Wilson each added five. Maria Brown tallied 18 assists and Jamie Farley notched 24 digs.

Rebecca Gasper had 13 kills for the Falcons and Brianna Muetzel followed up with 12.

Wartburg outblocked Wis.-River Falls 13.5-3. The Falcons (11-15) beat another IIAC opponent, Loras, in five sets in their nightcap.

The Knights (21-8) bounced back with a 28-26, 25-17, 25-17 sweep of Clarke (19-11).

Willenbring paced Wartburg with 10 kills and three service aces, Krystal Graves had seven kills, Wilson six. Emma Harmeyer totaled 19 assists and Jamie Farley dug out nine balls.

The Crusaders committed 35 errors, including eight from the service line, to Wartburg’s 13. The Knights out-hit Clarke .304-.142.
