Wartburg challenged on the road

The Wartburg men’s (4-2-1) and women’s (4-2-1) soccer teams went 1-3 on the road this weekend.

Wartburg’s men’s team has an away record of 2-2, while the women’s team is 0-2-1 when not on their home field.

The men’s and women’s team lost on Sunday at the University of Chicago and UW-Oshkosh, respectively.

On Saturday, while the men’s team pulled out a win and the women were defeated.

Women faced off at 2 p.m. against UW-Oshkosh on Sunday.

Alyssa Hewitt scored the first goal of the game in the 30th minute.

UW-Oshkosh then scored two goals in the second half to come out with the win.

Alyssa Drewelow also had three shots on goal for a total of 6 shots on goal for the team.

On Saturday, the women faced St. Thomas. Both teams were undefeated going into the matchup.

St. Thomas scored 3 goals while Nicole Adair managed to get 1 shot on goal.

Adair’s attempt failed to find the net and St. Thomas remained undefeated.

Last week, Beth Crow tied the school record for career shutouts with 21, with the win against Saint Benedict. She will have many more chances to beat the record in the coming weeks.

The men began their Sunday game at 3 p.m. at the University of Chicago.

Fourth-ranked University of Chicago shut out Wartburg with the 3-0 win.

The team had four shots on goal.

Wartburg won their matchup at Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday 2-1.

Illinois Wesleyan scored first at 49 minutes.

Seven and a half minutes later, Travis Gudenkauf put a header into the net . The assist went to Nick Schwake, which also tied the game at 1-1.

In the 79th minute, Devin Eby with an assist by Daniel Luzindya scored to win the game. Paris Martins also had three shots on goal Saturday for a team total of six shots on goal.

Coming up this week, the men’s team takes on St. Olaf College in Waverly at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday the men will open their IIAC play with a game against Simpson College at 3:30 p.m. in Waverly.

The women are following a similar schedule and will also face St. Olaf on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

They will also begin their IIAC play on Saturday here in Waverly against Simpson College. Their game will begin at 1 p.m.
