Wartburg cracks top five

By virtue of Linfield’s 31-28 loss to rival Willamette on Saturday, Wartburg (8-0) moved up to No. 5 in the new d3football.com and AFCA Coaches polls after a 43-24 win over Buena Vista.

It’s the program’s highest ranking since it was No. 4 at the end of the 2003 season.

Central (6-2) is receiving five votes in the coaches poll. Buena Vista (5-3) is no longer receiving consideration.

Wis.-Whitewater (8-0), Mary Hardin-Baylor (8-0), Mount Union (8-0) and Wesley (9-0) remained Nos. 1-4

The Knights are now the second highest ranked West Region team, behind Wis.-Whitewater. Other ranked West Region teams are No. 10/12 Bethel (7-1), No. 11/14 Linfield (6-1), No. 17/19 Wis.-Platteville (6-2), No. 18 St. John’s (7-1), No. 21/24 Chapman (6-1), No. 24/23 St. Thomas (6-2) and Willamette (5-2), which is No. 25 in the d3football.com poll.

Concordia-Moorhead (7-2), Wis.-Stevens Point (6-2), Wis.-Oshkosh (4-4), Carroll (7-1), Pacific Lutheran (5-2), Central (6-2), Pacific (5-2) and St. Scholastica (9-0) are receiving votes.
