The Wartburg Women’s Soccer Team (15-4-2) defeated St. Scholastica (12-7-2) 1-0 on their home turf to advance to the second round of the NCAA national soccer tournament Saturday afternoon.
“We’ve been working for this all season to get to this place and we want to keep our season going.” Liza Trizzino said.
In the first period, the Knights had a total of three shots at the goal compared to the Saints’ five.
Wartburg’s Nicole Adair scored the only goal of the game after receiving an assist from Alyssa Hewitt.
Wartburg also had two corner kicks while St. Scholastica had one.
The game started to pick up in the second period as Wartburg had 13 attempts at the goal compared to St. Scholastica, who only had ten attempts.
Throughout the game, Wartburg Goalkeeper Beth Crow had a total of five saves compared to St. Scholastica’s Kelsey Reeves four.
Head coach Tiffany Pins said they have more work to do going into tomorrow’s game.
“We got to take it one game at a time. We got to continue to focus on what we are doing and what brings us success,” Pins said.
The Knights return to the field Sunday Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. against Puget Sound.
