It’s a calendar countdown to the Christmas holiday season.

Waverly businesses are preparing to showcase their holiday cheer during the upcoming Festival of Trees and Christmas Greetings on Main, two traditional community-wide Christmas events.

The annual Waverly Festival of Trees is slated for Wednesday, Nov. 28 through Sunday, Dec. 16, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.   The public is invited to attend the free event.

Last year, Wartburg offered to host the Festival of Trees in the college’s Classroom Technology Center. Officials were pleased to host the yearly event and make it more accessible to students as well as to the hundreds of visitors attending college holiday events,  including Christmas at Wartburg, and the Wartburg Community Symphony holiday concert.

Linda Moeller, senior strategist, Marketing and Communication, stressed the importance of student involvement with these holiday activities.

“Students are an integral part of the community and local residents enjoy seeing them involved in activities,” she said.

While it may be the holiday cheer that brings Wartburg and the Waverly community closer together, Moeller said those close ties help make the events successful.

“Festival of Trees enhances the Christmas with Wartburg experience for visitors, and many students said they also enjoyed walking through the display last year it got them in the Christmas spirit,”  Moeller said.

For Christmas Greetings on Main, Wartburg communication arts students will be collecting donations for the Northeast Iowa food bank.

Moeller recommends students help spread the holiday cheer and take part in the events that Wartburg and Waverly offer.

“Both Festival of Trees and Christmas Greetings on Main are examples of college and community cooperation and support,” Moeller said.
