Wartburg up to No. 4 in coaches poll

None of the top five teams lost to Division III teams on the final day of the regular season, but the coaches moved Wartburg to No. 4 ahead of Wesley (9-1), which lost to Charlotte of Division I FCS by five points.

The Knights remained No. 5 in the d3football.com poll heading into the playoffs.

Wis.-Whitewater (10-0), Mary Hardin-Baylor (10-0) and Mount Union (10-0) still hold the top three spots. Wesley is No. 4 in the d3football.com rankings.

Johns Hopkins (10-0), Hobart (10-0), Wheaton (Ill.) (10-0), John Carroll (9-1) and Widener (10-0) make up the rest of the coaches top 10. The rest of the d3football.com top 10 features John Carroll, which lost to Mount Union Saturday, Johns Hopkins, Wheaton (Ill.), Hobart and Linfield (8-1).

In the Iowa Conference, Central (8-2) is receiving votes in the coaches poll.

Wartburg’s first-round playoff opponent, St. Thomas, is No. 20 in the d3football.com version and No. 18 in the coaches poll. St. John’s, a potential second round opponent, is No. 13.

Along with No. 1 Wis.-Whitewater, No. 5 Wartburg, No. 10/11 Linfield, No. 13 St. John’s and No. 20/18 St. Thomas in the West Region, Wis.-Oshkosh (6-4) is No. 23 in the d3football.com poll and Concordia-Moorhead (8-2) is No. 25 in the coaches poll. Wis.-Platteville (7-3), Bethel (7-3), Pacific Lutheran (7-2), St. Scholastica (10-0), Central (8-2) and Macalester (9-1) are receiving votes.
