At that time, city officials began their search for a new administrator. Just a couple of weeks ago, their search had been narrowed down to five.

Just last friday, those officials chose Phil Jones for the position. Jones is a native Iowa and a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. He is currently still employed in Westminster, Colorado and will start his new position in Waverly later in November.

According to Mayor Bob Brunkhorst, picking Jones as the new administrator, or CEO of Waverly, was a simple choice.

“Phil rose above all the rest of them. He is very down to earth. He’s a person that wants to seek information and make sure that we do it for the right reason,” said Brunkhorst.

There will be a two week layover where both Crayne and Jones will be in Waverly to make the transition into Jones’ tenure smoother.
