The Wartburg women’s soccer team lost 1-0 in overtime against Dubuque Saturday night.
The Knights (7-5-4, 2-2-1) have now played six overtime games this season. Four of those went into double-overtime and ended in a tie and the other two resulted in losses.
This time Wartburg kept the Spartans (13-4-0, 4-1) scoreless until the 93rd minute of the game. That’s when Dubuque’s Kyleigh McLaughlin scored unassisted past Wartburg goalie Beth Crow.
“I thought our girls played well,” head coach Tiffany Pins said. “They played hard, and they fought for a little over 90 minutes. We dominated the game, but that’s not really the point of the game. The point of the game is to outscore the other team and we didn’t do that tonight.”
The Spartans took nine shots, six of which were on goal. Wartburg took more shots with 15. Only seven of those shots were on goal.
Wartburg’s Olivia Jansen and Brittany Frush both took the most shots in the game with four. Three of Jansen’s were on goal, and Frush had one shot on goal.
“I feel like we had the majority of the play,” Pins said. “Dubuque’s a good team and they had some nice opportunities, too, but I thought we did some nice things tonight.”

Pins knows exactly what her team will be working on this week, scoring.
“That’s where we’re at right now,” Pins said. “We’ve got to be able to put it in the back of the net.”
The Knights have a chance to redeem themselves this Saturday against Loras (9-6, 4-1), which is now tied for first in the Iowa Conference with crosstown rival Dubuque.
The Duhawks (9-6-0, 4-1-0) are coming off a win after giving Luther their second loss of the season, 1-0, Saturday night. The game starts at 5 p.m. in Dubuque.
